About Us

Stone Tucker Instruments Inc. was formed in September 2004 with the goal of providing the Coatings Industry in Canada with quality inspection products, and service excellence at competitive prices. Today, Stone Tucker Instruments has grown to be Canada’s #1 supplier of Coating Inspection Equipment, NDE Equipment, and related Quality Assurance Instruments.

Founding partners Bob Tucker and Jim Stone are well-respected in the protective coatings industry in Canada. As NACE – certified Coatings Inspectors, both men recognized a need for a supplier of quality coatings inspection equipment possessing comprehensive product knowledge, as well as first-hand understanding of the full range of Coatings Inspection applications. Jim’s broad scope of experience through employment under his father, George Stone, and then ownership of GL Stone Consulting Ltd, and Bob’s background experience including coatings and quality assurance management, and his Marine Coatings specialization, have provided Stone Tucker Instruments with an unique level of expertise in all aspects of the coatings industry. Bob continues as President and Technical Manager, leading Stone Tucker Instruments in professional excellence and quality product offerings.

Bob acquired extensive experience in marine coatings during his employment with Saint John Shipbuilding and Engineering, and Port Weller Dry Docks in St. Catharines, Ontario. In Saint John, he was involved in supervising the new construction of three Canadian Patrol Frigates at the Saint John dry-dock and in Tracy, Quebec. Bob received his full NACE Coating Inspector Certification with Marine Coatings Specialist, as well as training in the Non-Destructive Inspection processes of Ultrasonic Inspection, Magnetic Particle Inspection, and Liquid Penetrant Inspection, during his time in at Port Weller, where he held positions of Quality Assurance Manager, and Paint Superintendent. Bob was also responsible for development and implementation of the ISO 9000-2000 Quality Programme for PWDD.

In addition to running Stone Tucker Instruments, Bob continued providing coatings inspection and project management and consulting services in a variety of fields including marine, oil and gas, water and waste water facilities, bridges, galvanizing shops, and other industrial and commercial projects. Bob served several years on the board of directors of the Ontario Chapter of the SSPC, including three years as SSPC Chapter Chairman.

In 2011, Stone Tucker Instruments welcomed Jason Tucker in Technical and NDT Sales. Jason has a background in Electrical Engineering, and completed his NDT training with CINDE in MPI, LPI, UT, Radiography Inspection, and CEDO. He also acquired his NACE CIP1.
